library Build Status

Disclaimer: This project is purely for academic purposes. Check out a video that shows a few examples of using library.

API

I formated the output of some of these commands to make it easier to understand.

Data

Add new key mykey with value myvalue. Updating and adding keys works the same way.

$ curl -v localhost:5000/data/mykey -X PUT -d "myvalue"
* upload completely sent off: 7 out of 7 bytes
< HTTP/1.1 201 Created
< Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
< Content-Length: 7
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:35:16 GMT
<
myvalue%

Get an existing key

$ curl -v localhost:5000/data/mykey
< HTTP/1.1 200 OK
< Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
< Content-Length: 7
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:40:00 GMT
<
myvalue%

Get an unknown key

$ curl -v localhost:5000/data/badkey
< HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
< Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
< Content-Length: 0
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:40:28 GMT

Ring membership

You can ask a node to join with another node

$ curl -v localhost:5000/peers/join -X PUT -d "http://localhost:5001"
* upload completely sent off: 1 out of 1 bytes
< HTTP/1.1 201 Created
< Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
< Content-Length: 0
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:49:21 GMT

Ask two nodes to join which are already joined

$ curl -v localhost:5000/peers/join -X PUT -d "http://localhost:5001"
* upload completely sent off: 1 out of 1 bytes
< HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict
< Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
< Content-Length: 0
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:50:51 GMT

Stats

you can ask a node for statistics about itself.

$ curl -v localhost:5000/stats
< HTTP/1.1 200 OK
< Content-Type: application/json
< Content-Length: 145
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:44:52 GMT
<

    "ring": [
        "http://localhost:5000",
        "http://localhost:5002",
        "http://localhost:5001"
    ],
    "vnodeCount": 341,
    "vnodeSize": 4194303,
    "vnodeStart": 0
}

Settings

n value

The number of nodes a key should be replicated to

Set n to 2

$ curl -v localhost:5000/settings/n -X PUT -d 2
* upload completely sent off: 1 out of 1 bytes
< HTTP/1.1 201 Created
< Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
< Content-Length: 0
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:46:31 GMT

Set n to a value higher than the total amount of nodes (in this case we have 3 nodes):

$ curl -v localhost:5000/settings/n -X PUT -d 5
* upload completely sent off: 1 out of 1 bytes
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:46:31 GMT
< HTTP/1.1 422 status code 422
< Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
< Content-Length: 0
< Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2013 22:47:28 GMT

Private API

There are a number of API endpoints that are used internally and should not be used externally unless you really know what you're doing.

  • PUT /data/set/:key Set key and value
  • PUT /peers Add a node as a peer
  • PUT /ring Set the local hashring
  • GET /stats/keys Shows count of all keys and a list of all key/value pairs
